Missing Some Subscriptions?
Note: This bug has been fixed since I originally posted this.
Every one has noticed that views have been dropping on their videos lately. And most of us know the cause: YouTube no longer removes the videos you’ve watched from your subscription inbox. Meaning, unless you refresh your subscriptions inbox very frequently, day and night, you are missing some of the videos that your favorite vloggers are uploading.
I have no idea why YouTube has changed this, nor why they haven’t reverted back to the traditional way of removing videos after they’ve been watched. But here’s a tip that might help you miss fewer videos.
Most of the time, your subscription inbox only displays eight videos, as seen here:
However, notice that little, tiny, almost hidden “edit” link in the top right-hand corner?
Click it, and you are given a few options. Choose the drop-down menu marked “Number of rows to display” and choose “3″.
Now you will have three rows of your subscriptions’ videos.
This won’t guarantee that you’ll see all of the videos you’re subscribed to, but it will help you see more of them. I really hope YouTube fixes this issue soon. Until then, use this tip to see 50% more than you were before. Happy ‘Tubing!

Hey Alan
I noticed the edit button at the top as well. I mean Youtube hasn’t fixed a lot of the problems at all.
But this tip does work and has helped a lot.
Glad you shared this Alan.

Hey Alan
I’m not sure if you noticed this or not but I made a video about this during my term as YourTubeAdvocate, well 2 actually, 15.3 and 15.4, most of the feedback I got from it was suggesting that the best way for everyone to be happy with this is to introduce a delete video feature which works like the PM system.
I’m hoping that with more community voicing behind this idea cause it would seem really easy to implement, we can get this included.

I don’t even use the subscription box any more to look at sub videos, I always click view all and go from there.

I wish every YouTuber were as smart as you Valerie. =)

I’ve found RSS feeds to be much more reliable. I’m not 100% sure of this, but I believe it works on any user, regardless of whether or not the XML link for an RSS feed is present on the page.

I heard the change back to videos not disappearing was an unavoidable side affect of them fixing the bug that caused some videos not to show up at all in some peoples sub boxes.
But yeh, think I’ll give this a go. =)

Bliey, that’s handy, thanks Alan!
Hopefully the word’ll get out and people will make regular use of this- my views have definitely been suffering recently…

When I was getting frustrated with the problem I waded through tons of junk in the help section and found what Dave says - they got rid of the feature because there was a bug where videos were disappearing (or rather never showing up) from subscription centers that had never been watched. The bug fix was merely to remove the feature entirely. They claim to be working on it, but I’m sure the priority on it is low since they’ve unveiled other new things in the meantime and haven’t reported on its progress at all (as far as I’m aware anyway).

Usually what I do to make sure that I see all my subscriptions is just clicking view all, that way I see all the newly uploaded videos.

Good advice Alan. Now why is the quicklist so messed up?
November 11th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Nice tip.
I use this url to sign in and view my subscriptions (less steps to making a QuickList):
http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center
On the front page I find the “Display as” option useful for seeing the video descriptions.
We just have to rely on our memory until YT does the work for us…

Hey Mate!! Awesome post. Corey “Mr. Safety” Williams posted a video not to long ago about this very same thing. He did not point out the edit feature, but he did point out the ‘view all’ button so that you can go back and see the videos that were not displayed.
Also, I think you should have mentioned how it not only doesn’t refresh when you watch a video, but if a person upload multiple videos it only displays the latest video posted. This means that a person who uploads 3 videos in a day will only have the 3rd video up in the box. This is a really frustrating flaw of the new format.
I wish they would change it back.
