ClipCritics Interview
ClipCritics are a partially animated show on YouTube with over 20,000 subscribers. Most episodes review or light-heartedly criticize other YouTubers. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Chad from the ClipCritics:
AL: When and why did the ClipCritics start making videos for YouTube?
CC: The ClipCritics is a slither of a more ambitious idea called “The World Wide Webscapers”. The Webscapers is an idea that we had a development deal for at a major network. Basically, the network wanted to strip us of all rights as artists because they were like what have you done. They wouldn’t guarantee us the right to: say what we want, be the characters on the show, keep us on as the producers, or allow us to have any ownership of the world we created. We walked and 5 years later we put our first short up on Youtube…my god were we stupid.
AL: If you had one sentence to describe your channel on YouTube, what would you say?
CC: A diverse, immature, honest, outlook that makes fun of all races and religions with an underlying drive of sex.
AL: How has your success on YouTube helped your career outside of YouTube?
CC: We have a ton of people contacting us that never would have before: Prisoners, Perverts, and YouTubers like your self.
AL: Who is your target audience? And who is your ACTUAL audience?
CC: Males….Males.
AL: In what ways do you interact with your audience?
CC: Youtube gatherings, email and phone sex.
AL: Has your circle of friends from YouTube transferred over to your circle of friends in real life?
CC: Yes, the only difference is now they live thousands of miles away.
AL: How much of your day is spent on YouTube?
CC: Through our YouTube account this year alone it shows we’ve watched around 30,000 videos. If each video averages 2 minutes that comes to be roughly 1000 hours. If you divide a 1000 hours by a 40 hour work week that equals… WAY TO MUCH FUCKING TIME ON YOUTUBE.
AL: What advice do you have for up and coming YouTubers?
CC: Get out while you still have a life, or have sex with Nigahiga.
AL: Do you feel you could repeat your success on YouTube if you started over today? Why or why not?
CC: No, because we would care less.
